There are many different cultures in the world that have a custom of body piercing and have carried out these customs for centuries. A peek at the history book may offer you leads that proved that the Greeks, Egyptians, Romans did the body piercing. The Association for Professional Piercers (APP) is an international organization and non-profit organization which dedicated to the distribution of important information which is vital for health and safety related to body piercing, piercers, health care providers and the general body piercing enthusiasts. The official website of APP contains vast amount of factual and vital information related to body piercing. The website also claims that if anybody is not able to find the information he/she wants then he/she is welcome to contact the APP via an email or by telephone and the APP will be happy to assist you.

If you also want to be a professional piercer then you must follow the following process.

1. You should find a suitable apprenticeship in a reputed studio under a well-respected, highly skilled and very experienced professional piercer.

2. You must attend a training class of bloodborne pathogens like those given by the Red Cross and the National Safety Council.

3. You must attend the First Aid and CPR training class.

4. You must spend a minimum of four months a full trainee and must learn sterilization, disinfection, cross-contamination and other health and safety issues before piercing.

5. You must also spend atleast six months to a year as a full apprentice under supervision to get a title of a professional piercer.

6. To learn appropriate customer service, purchasing of appropriate jewelry quality and selection and aftercare procedures.
