There are number of folklores associated with body piercing. Such stories were created by body piercing enthusiasts. They specified that body piercing especially nipple piercing was in practice in Ancient Europe and Rome. They also told that the warriors made nipple piercing and hung their capes there. But it is not true. The warriors made nipple piercing to show their strength. But they hung the capes in the breast plate attached in their jacket only.

In ancient Ireland it was believed that piercing the body of a snail with thorns would cure the diseases. Jews practiced body piercing as a symbol of slavery and shame. If any one violated the law, he would be tattooed without his willingness. It was a punishment and the culprit would not be later punished for violating the law. Jews with such ridiculous tattoos were not allowed to perform religious rituals.

In Bible it was specified that ear and nose piercing was allowed. But genital piercing was made to slaves.

Generally body piercing is considered as an art by young people. But the parents and elders consider it as a flesh mutilation. Ear piercing was not allowed for men in the last century. But now it has become a fashion. There are some other piercing also which includes lip labrets, tongue piercing, nostrils, naval and genital piercing. Some of them are not acceptable. Ear and nose piercing are however acceptable and will not produce any serious side effect.

In fact internal beauty is a must for every body and not the external beauty. The urban body piercing folklore is that the piercing is a symbol of self expression. But it is not true. Piercing is an indication of beauty and art and it will not show any self expression symbol.

It was believed that male nipple piercing will indicate the strength and courageous nature of aman. Even Julius Cesar had done nipple piercing to show his power and separate identity to his warriors. But it was a mere myth. Nipple piercing will never produce the symbol of strength. Wearing ornaments in nipple after piercing will be unattractive and ridiculous only.
