Cologne Bottles
The perfumes and fragrances or scents were always used by the very rich people from the historical times. If you have a special product for the kings and queens then it has to be packed in the best available manner available at that time. The first eau de cologne was discovered by an Italian perfumer in the city of cologne in Germany. In French, eau de cologne means water from cologne! The first ever cologne was produced in 1709. It is recorded historical fact that Napoleon liked and used eau de cologne of the first and original product by that Italian perfumer. Do you expect Napoleon to receive his cologne in ordinary packing? The history of cologne bottles is pretty old and past cologne bottles have a good antique value.
Old spice is cologne brand which is in the use all over the world from pretty long time. It had a buoy shaped bottle made of white glass. And a grey stopper. The old spice cologne bottles were very well recognized all over the world by the old generations. Now presently old spice is produced in the plastic bottles with the red cap now. The old generations will always miss the old spice cologne bottles. The association of the brand with cologne bottles is too strong to forget.
For last two hundred years the cologne bottles have a place of pride in the bedrooms of the Americans. The glass bottles changed their shapes and forms as the glass technology evolved. In Victorian times a cut glass was used for the cologne bottles. Thus ladies dressing table will have cut cologne bottles with silver mounts. In early 1900 the iridescent and atomized glass bottles were the fashion in the world of cologne bottles. In the early nineteenth century the perfumer started producing their designed cologne bottles. These cologne bottles were patented. There were machine made glass bottles used as cologne bottles. But the patented cologne bottles had a lot of prestige in the elite class. Even today there are some glass studios which produce a small number of cologne bottles for super rich clients. The advancement of the plastic technology caused the demise of this artistic beautiful arena of cologne bottles.
In1850 we find cologne bottles from different factories dominating the market. The fun was that ladies used to prepare their own cologne as a home recipe!
