Different Methods Of Body Piercing

The main purpose of body piercing is to wear the jewelry in the opening formed due to piercing. It is a type of body decoration. It has become very popular among men and women throughout the world. It is more common in the models and celebrities. Piercing can be performed on various body parts like ear, nose, lips, tongue, eyebrows, navel, nipples etc. There are different methods of body piercing available at the professional body piercing studios.

Standard needle method

It is the most commonly used method. It involves the use of a medical hollow needle. An opening is created in the skin and a piece of initial jewelry is inserted into the opening. The needle method doesn’t involve the removal of flesh. The needle used is one size larger than that of the initial jewelry. It is done to decrease the pressure on the fresh healing piercing. It gives more space to heal and allows a fistula to form. The standard needle method is commonly practiced in many countries.

Piercing guns

The piercing gun is the gun-shaped instrument. It applies a mechanical force for piercing a stud through the body part. Its mechanism is exactly like a stapler. This method is generally used by the non-professional piercers and commonly used for piercing the earlobes. It is recommended to avoid this method because the guns can’t be sterilized completely. Hence, there is high risk of transmission of viral and bacterial infections.

Cannula method

The method is same like the standard needle method. The only difference is that instead of inserting the initial jewelry into the piercing opening, it is inserted inside a hollow plastic tube called as a cannula. This method is commonly practiced in Europe.

Scalpel method

If you want a large size body piercing, the medical scalpel is perfect for making a bigger cut. It is commonly used for large gauge ear piercings. It can be also used for correcting any asymmetry of the ear piercings.

Piercer and Taper

This method is applied for the bigger gauge piercings. It is useful on the body parts where the skin is quite elastic. This method is similar to the standard needle method. When the piercing is done with the needle, the piercer pushes a tapered steel bar to make the opening larger. The jewelry is inserted following the bar.

Dermal punching

This method ensures that the hole created remains for a longer time. It is mainly used for the upper ear piercings. It involves the removal of cartilage and skin to lift the pressure of the piercing. In dermal punching, a circular area of the tissue is removed where the jewelry is worn.
