Eyebrow Piercing

An eyebrow piercing is one of the types of body piercing. It is done through the eyebrows, generally vertically. It is comparatively common among the types of facial piercings. The eyebrow piercing can be done directly from above the eye to the edge of the eyebrow. It is of contemporary origin. Anti-eyebrow piercing is generally uncommon piercing.

The eyebrow is pierced at the angle of 35 degree from the outer corner of the eye. The piercing should be not performed directly above the eye as there are three major supra-orbital nerves at that site. Piercing of one of these nerves can result in the permanent damage. The piercing is generally done at an angle so that the ring is placed at proper position.

The piercing should be performed in a very hygienic condition. All the equipments used for the piercing should be sterilized. The common jewelries used for the eyebrow piercing are curved barbells, barbells and captive bead rings. All these jewelry types put certain pressure on the piercing which may cause migration or irritation, particularly in the fresh piercing. The surface bars or other jewelry is not always used for the initial piercing. The use of more common piercing jewelry creates a large risk of rejection or migration in the eyebrow piercing.

The eyebrow piercing takes about 6-8 weeks for complete healing. They can easily get irritated due to casual contact or application of make-up and other beauty products. It causes the infection to the piercing. If you take proper care of the piercing, the healing will occur earlier.

The eyebrow piercing can cause some problems. The skin at the piercing site is very thin. It has many hair follicles and doesn’t have much tissue to give it the strength. The eyebrows prevent any dirt to fall into the eyes. The dirt gets into the wound.

The displacing of the jewelry out of the skin is called as the migration. The amount of skin required for the initial piercing is decreased until the jewelry grows out. Even if the piercing is done in a proper way, the migration can occur. To avoid the migration, it is better to do the piercing using a barbell.

The piercing can get infected due to touching it with dirty hands, any type of trauma and not keeping the face clean. The symptoms of infection are swelling, redness, pain and discharge. The infection should be immediately treated.
