Home Treatment For Piercing Problems

The body piercing can cause many problems like infections, scarring of the piercing site and skin allergies. The piercer provides all the aftercare instructions. They will help to prevent the problems and promote the healing. There are some home treatments for piercing problems.

If there is bleeding during the piercing procedure, apply direct pressure to the site to stop the bleeding. Applying the cold pack helps to reduce the swelling. Don’t apply the ice directly to the site. It may cause the tissue damage. Always place a layer cloth towel between the skin and the cold pack.

Wash the wound for 5 minutes for 3 to 4 times in a day using plenty of warm water and antibacterial soap. The piercing area should be elevated to reduce the swelling. After the first 48 hours of procedure, if bruising and swelling are eliminated, then soak the wound in the warm water for about 20 minutes. Do it 3 to 4 times in a day. The warmth of the water will help to increase the blood flow in the area. It reduces the risk of infection. If it is very difficult to soak the wound, apply a moist, warm compression pack to the area.

If you have practiced a tongue or mouth piercing, it is advised to use the antibacterial mouthwash like Scope or Listerine. It helps the healing process. Avoid the intake of spicy food or alcohol; avoid smoking until the piercing is completely healed. Keep you jewelry clean using alcohol or hot, soapy water. Apply the antibiotic ointment like bacitracin or polymyxin B sulfate lightly to the wound. But if it causes itching or skin rash, stop the use of ointment. The rash may be due to the allergic reaction.

Don’t wear the tight clothing over the piercing area. It can irritate the piercing site. If you develop the irritation, it is better to bandage the site. The piercing sites generally heal well without or with the bandage.

If the piercing site appears red and if you are suspecting of getting the infection, then immediately remove the jewelry. Apply the warm water on the site for about 20 minutes 3 to 4 times in a day. If it is difficult to soak the wound, then apply a moist, warm cloth on the site. If the symptoms worsen during the home treatment, then immediately get the medical treatment.
