Indwelling cannula method is practiced in many parts of Europe. The needles are attached with a cannula, a flexible plastic sheath. The needle is pierced into the client’s part of the body like the standard method and the cannula followed the needle to keep the piercing open. Then the jewelry is inserted to the fresh piercing and then the cannula will be removed. Unlike needles, the cannula directly comes from the manufacturers. So it is sterilized previously by the manufacturer itself. Indwelling cannula comes in a separate package. So there is no chance for contamination. It assures safety for the clients.
The cannula is sharper than normal needle. As they are intended for single use, there is no chance for getting blunt. The standard needle in turn may be used again, though it is ant advisable to do so. Cannula is sharper and so it is easier to insert the jewelry in the piercing. It is far better than piercing guns that will cause the healing procedure so long.
Though it is painful to use a cannula, it is safer and easier to wear jewelry. The wound will heal normally within one week. As it is pre sterilized, it avoids any contamination and thus safe guard the health of the client.
Many people like to wear gold or silver jewelry in the piercing. Stainless steel and titanium are ideal for fresh piercing. Plastic jewelry is not recommended for initial stage in piercing. Though plastic jewelry is allowed in tattoo industry, it is not advisable to wear in fresh piercing.
The indwelling cannula method reduces the chance of jewel slipping down from piercing and it also minimizes irritation in the fresh piercing. It will not cut any flesh or tissue and so there will no blood loss in this method. This is safe and comfortable.
Indwelling cannula method is generally used for piercing ear lobes for wearing ear studs. Nowadays men also want to wear ear ornaments and they consider cannula method more comfortable. As there will be no blood clot in this method, it is safe and easy. But it is more painful than standard needle method.
