Piercing can be applied to various body parts such as nose, lips, eyebrows, tongue, ears, nipples etc. Nose piercing is very common and popular among the women. Septum piercing is less common as compare to nostril piercing. The nasal septum is the cartilaginous wall that divides the nostrils. The cartilage is not pierced. The septum piercing is performed by puncturing the tissue inside the nose. The jewelry used for this type of piercing includes spikes, rings, tusks and barbells.

The bridge piercing is the rarest type of piercing. It involves the piercing through the small flap of skin at the top of the nose. Its location is between the eyes. The most commonly used jewelry for this type of piercing is straight barbells or curved barbells.

The jewelry for the nose piercing should be selected according to its location. The jewelry made from surgical steel, titanium, niobium or 14/18 carat gold is preferred in the beginning. When the piercing is healed, the sterling sliver jewelry can be used. Nose piercing should not be performed with the help of a piercing gun as it damages the tissue and cause the bacterial and viral infections. The piercing should not be touched with the dirty hands. It should be cleaned with the antibacterial soap.
