Piercing Guns

Body piercing is an age-old art. It has been in practice among various ethnic communities since a very long time. But today this art has evolved beautifully and is practiced in much better ways. Body piercing has become less painful and is practiced in better ways using scientific and good quality instruments.

Previously, needles were the predominant instruments used in the process of piercing. Today they have been replaced with piercing guns. Piercing guns are used for piercing of many parts of the body, but are mostly used for piercing the ears. Needles and other methods are used for piercing of the sensitive parts of the body. Needles in various shapes and sizes are gentler on the body than the piercing guns. Body piercing using guns is relatively less expensive than body piercing using needles.

Piercing guns are a modern invention. They work on the mechanism of potential energy. Potential energy is stored in the spring of the gun and is released when the gun is at work. In case of ear piercing, the portion of the ear is placed between the gun and potential energy from the spring is released creating an impact on the ears and pushing the pre-made stud through the ear. Pre-sterilized earrings are made by various companies. These are placed in the receiving tube of the gun and pushed through the ear on ignition of the gun.

Professional body piercing artists are inst the concept of using piercing guns, as according to them, the guns cause infection and damage. But various units producing piercing guns are taking precautions to avoid this. The stud-holder or the cartridge are now available in disposable varieties and can be replaced from time to time thereby ensuring hygiene and safety. They can be sterilized using Cold sterilization methods. Many modern designs are trying to minimize contamination risks. Many experts argue that, that even though the studs used in piercing look blunt, their impact is high leading to tissue damage. But a standard has been developed for earlobe studs, according to which they should 1/4″ in size and should have butterfly backs.

The key is that piercing guns should be handled by professionals and should be sterilized and maintained regularly.
