The main reason for the occurrence of stretch marks during puberty for boys and girls rapid growth or weight a common phenomenon observed at the puberty stage. Although the marks appear on the epidermal layer of the skin it happens when the tissue under the skin layer gets pulled by the rapid growth or stretching. Generally the human skin is found to be fairly elastic but when it undergoes excessive stretch the normal production of collagen is disrupted. Obese people are also found to have stretch marks. Bodybuilders are prone to getting stretch marks because of the rapid body changes that bodybuilding can produce. Importance of hydration:

Hydration is important for over all health and well being. Adequate hydration is very much important in keeping the skin soft and thus in the prevention of the stretch marks. Proper hydration is also very important for maintaining the balanced levels of elasticity of the skin and to maintain the right amount of moisture present in the skin. Hydration also assists the skin to get rid of dryness and thus limiting the chances of appearance of the stretch marks. By keeping the skin well hydrated it retains its natural soft and supple form and also can effectively ward off stretch marks. More over if the body is properly hydrated it gives a natural glow to the skin and thus lightens the appearances of the stretch marks. However, so far we have discussed about the importance of hydration but it should be noted there is only one way to keep the body well hydrated, which is to drink lots of water. On an average a person is recommended to drink at least 5 to 7 liters of water per day to keep the water level in balance.
