Mostly body piercing is done by opening the part of the body with the sharp needle. This is called standard needle method because this is the standard method practiced in United States for body piercing. It will be done with the help of hollow medical needle. The needle and the part of the body to be pierced will be sterilized. The needle will be sterilized by auto clave method. This method involves sterilizing the needle at a boiling point more than 100 degree which is not possible in normal water heating in open vessel.

The needle will be used to pierce the body followed by the jewel the client wants to wear. Normally needle will not remove any flesh and will not result in more blood loss. It cuts “C”shaped opening through which the jewel will be inserted. The opening will be normally double the size of the jewelry. This will help in quick healing.

Standard needle method is generally used in piercing the ear lobe to wear ear stud or ring. Stainless steel and titanium are the most ideal material for jewelry in fresh piercing. Gold and silver jewels are also used and it shows the status of wealth and beauty.

Nowadays even men are eager to do body piercing especially in wearing ear rings. Standard needle method is of great use as it will not cut the flesh and the wound will heal normally within a week.

Standard needle method is practiced in all parts of the world. Even some tribes use this method to wear heavy gold in ear lobes. It is advisable o discard the needle used for piercing immediately so that both the client and the piercer will not have any health problems.

While piercing the client through standard needle method, the piercer should wear more gloves for every step to avoid contamination. If he wears one set of gloves while sterilizing the part of the body to be pierced, then he should not use the same glove to touch the needle. Gloves should be immediately disposed after use. Standard needle method requires less force and so the client will not feel more pain.
