Vera Wang used to work for Vogue magazine where she worked for close to 16 years as a senior fashion editor. In 1987, she quit Vogue to take up a job in Ralph Lauren as a design director for accessories division. Her work in these firms helped her get an understanding of the fashion industry. Fashion had always been a passion for Vera Wang. She finally decided to start of in this industry with her own shop in Carlyle Hotel in New York in 1989. It’s a very interesting story as to what prompted her to start off with wedding gowns. As the story goes, Vera Wang was very disappointed with the available wedding gowns available in the market when she was getting married. So she not only designed her own wedding gown, she also set up the store which would primarily keep wedding dresses.
The store in Carlyle Hotel initially stored wedding dresses of leading designers. In a few years, Vera Wang wedding gowns were born. Initially, she was not sure how well people will accept her designs. But the innovative designs, the modern yet simple look, the sophistication and the luxury associated with Vera Wang wedding gowns were quickly noticed by the customers and they became a huge it. She shot to international fame when she designed an outfit for Nancy Kerrigan, the renowned ice skater, in the 1994 Olympics. After that, there was no looking back for Vera Wang and her wedding gowns. Vera Wang wedding gowns have adorned a lot of celebrities and actresses as they decided to walk down the aisles. Actresses like Sharon Stone, Avril Lavigne, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey have been dressed in Vera Wang wedding downs. No wonder that she is so popular in Hollywood.
