Vera Wang is a very famous American fashion designer who is based out of New York. She is very well known for her bridal collection. Vera Wang belongs to a very affluent family and thus had the best of education. She went to Chaplin school and then went on to study art at the School of American Ballet. She also studied at Sorbonne in Paris for a brief period. Vera Wang wanted to be a figure skater and she trained in it during her teens. She also participated in U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1968. Her dream was to be a part of the U.S. Olympics team; however on failing to quality, she turned her attention to her second passion - Fashion.

After graduating, she took up a job in Vogue magazine and soon her brilliance was evident at Vogue. She got promoted to the position of senior fashion editor and she continued in that position for about 15 years. However, she was turned down from the position of editor in chief for the magazine and so decided to move to Ralph Lauren as its design director.

It was when she decided to get married that Wang realized that there was a dearth of good bridal gowns. She decided to design her own and get it stitched by a professional dressmaker. In a few years, she started her own bridal boutique in the Carlyle Hotel in New York. She stored collections from leading designer before starting off with her own label of dresses. She got international acclaim after designing the costumes for figure US skaters in the 1994 Olympics. After that Wang never looked back.

Actresses like Sharon Stone, Avril Lavigne, Uma Thurman, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and many more wore bridal gowns designed by Vera Wang. She also started a line of evening dresses. Her designs became very popular among celebrities who would wear it to movie premiers and many award shows. She even made cameo appearances in lot of TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer etc.

Vera Wang expanded her business to many other dimensions. In 2001, she launched her own fragrance line. With time, she even launched her own line of jewelry, shoes, eye wears etc. In 2002, she started making products of home fashion. This started the Vera Wang crystal and china collection. In 2006, she started with another line of ready to wear not so expensive dresses under the name Very Vera. She has also authored a book on weddings titled Vera Wang on Weddings. She has also won several awards from American as well as international institutions.
