Women’s Self Defense Fad Or Necessity

Today’s society would have one believe that a woman who chooses to live alone is allowing herself to become a target for all sorts of criminal activity. A woman alone is an easy mark, so to speak, and as such should be prepared to defend herself. However, there is evidence that it is not the unknown attacker that should be of concern, but those that are chosen to be trusted. Should one choose to learn the women’s self-defense required to defend themselves against the unknown attacker, or would that time be better spent learning how to read people and allowing those who are unstable to remain outside of our lives? This is a question that every woman, should explore prior to becoming involved in a personal relationship.

Women’s self defense begins at home. Criminal statistics indicate that each day four women are murdered, not by random acts of violence, but rather homicides perpetrated by intimate partners. For this reason, women need to be skilled in the art of women’s self defense. One should never be at the mercy of anyone, let alone a loved one. Although one may not want to inflict injury, a course in women’s self defense can enable one to escape a perilous situation.

Some women may not feel that they are excluded access to a women’s self-defense class; however this is often not true. Many communities have athletic gymnasiums which offer martial arts classes or even specific women’s self defense courses. School systems also often sponsor learning seminars which will include a class in women’s self defense. In addition, many local agencies sponsor these instructional classes for little or no cost. Local police departments, colleges, and even the local YMCA will often offer classes in the art of women’s self defense. These courses are designed to bring in women from all spheres of society and in any age bracket. One should never concern themselves about their physical ability or handicaps as a good women’s self defense class will address all needs for the fairer persuasion. Regardless of a woman’s ability, there are means for an individual to protect themselves against all forms of formidable attack. One needs only investigate the community offerings and proceed to the next women’s self defense class to begin work in securing their own safety, both in the home and when alone on the streets of their community.

It is important to also remember that in addition to learning to protect one’s self, an individual will build confidence upon acquiring the skills of women’s self defense. Some courses that are offered through martial arts agencies, the local gym, or YMCA, will also serve to help the woman to build muscle or tone up their body. The feeling that one looks better and is able to protect themselves from potential perpetrators, enables the individual to feel confident about their appearance and their ability. However, if an individual chooses a simple women’s self defense course, with no additional physical training, is still going to feel more confident about their ability for personal protection. This confidence will emulate from the individual who has participated in women’s self defense and perhaps keep them from every becoming a target to begin with.
